In a second part of the 18th century, the neighborhood of Dzirciems started to transform into Manufacturing district."

Of course, a usual scenario in Soviet Times occupation period was to develop massive blockhouses, that did not do anything good for neighborhoods visual looks and community feeling. Only nowadays the neighborhood is trying to gain back its entrepreneurial spirit and community strength.
Despite the fact that Dzirciems mainly consists of Soviet style apartment buildings from 1970s, the neighborhood has a great potential to become one of the coolest residential neighborhoods in Riga.
The neighborhood has approximately 11 thousand inhabitants and it occupies an area of 2.4 sq km.

Dzirciems has always been a place for innovation. Now it is hosting one of the best universities in the Baltic Sea region - Rigas Stradiņš University that offers health care and social science studies. Therefore, we can see that the neighborhood has undergone changes in comparison from its initial usage type. Here you can really feel the student life and the enthusiasm surrounding the university campus.
If you're a fan of great nightlife and good dining places then Dzirciems is not known for these characteristics. So the nightlife is not really popular and common in Dzirciems. The coolest thing probably happens on June 23, when Latvians are celebrating the traditional celebration called: Līgo and Jāņi (midsummer night celebration). As a local resident or a visitor, this is something that forms a community in the neighborhood of Dzirciems. However, you have the chance to change that by joining the neighborhood of Dzirciems!

Rīga Stradiņš University (hereinafter – RSU) is the leading university in Latvia in the field of health sciences, and in recent years both medical and dental faculties are becoming the leading centres for medical and dental education in Northern Europe.
Rīga Stradiņš University (hereinafter – RSU) is the leading university in Latvia in the field of health sciences, and in recent years both medical and dental faculties are becoming the leading centres for medical and dental education in Northern Europe.
When the plans for a new central building of the Rīga Medical Institute were made in mid-80s of the 20th century, the land property that used to be a residential area was chosen as the site of the future building. When the RSU main building was opened in 1987, it was literally in the middle of private houses and blocks of flats leaving the university with minimum chances of building a fully functional campus for its students. This has led to a situation that students study at more than 40 study bases including several general/ specialised hospitals. In 2015, the university celebrated its 65th Anniversary.
Even though there are only 8000 students studying at RSU, we have worked hard to introduce the university to the world and it has been a success. Same as in most universities in the world, the majority of students at RSU are locals. However, over the years the proportion of RSU international students has grown immensely. International students formed only 5 percent of the total student body in 2010, whereas now one of every four RSU students is an international student (25 %). RSU is open to new challenges, creative people and new ideas, which can ensure the highest quality in any field.

Dzirciems neighborhood is well connected to rest of Pardaugava and the right side of Riga. Especially, after infrastructure improvements on Daugavgrivas Street. It's possible that the real estate prices in long term will rise in this former industrial district.

Several of pre-war walk-ups have been succesfuly renovated but there are plenty of homes that still waits their new owners and improvements.

During the day, the streets are full of activity and we can see that people are truly enjoying Dzirciems neighborhood. Fairly cheaper then many neighborhoods on the right side of Riga, Dzirciems has a good value for Soviet-era residential apartments. Neighborhood feels authentic to the left side of Riga (Pārdaugava).
