City of history: Cesis

Established in 1206, Cesis is a pearl of historical heritage and is depicting the former glory of Livonian Order. Since the former capital of Livonia was established, the city has generated a lot of important moments for the development of the Baltic States region. Nowadays, this charming city is mainly used as:

  • a tourist destination;

  • a place for cultural, educational and sports events;

  • service, IT business and manufacturing companies;

  • agriculture.

While you are walking through the small and winding streets of Cesis the air vibrates with romance and nostalgia for simpler times. Also on every street corner, you will and olf and majestic tree with green leaves. This point towards the sustainability of the city.

After many renovations, the church of St.Janis still stands strong and has a truly powerful look. Let’s hope that the church will live for centuries as it’s one of the greatest symbols of Cesis.

The Old town with its symbolism, medieval streets, old residential and commercial buildings, magnificent architecture and symbolism is a proof of human thoughtfulness. If you are a historian you will love the city of Cesis!
