" Čiekurkalns from historic perspective is one of the oldest neighborhoods for factory workers in the city of Riga. Rapid industrial development and openings of factories were the main reason for the massive growth of the neighborhood in the second half of 19th century and early beginning of 20th century. All of this contributed to the growth of multi-residential apartment buildings. This is a neighborhood where families enjoyed small-town living for many years, until it became more populated and it was converted for industrial use in Soviet occupation time.Čiekurkalns neighborhood with its industrial feel from older days looks very attractive for younger families. Additionaly, the neighborhood definetley has a huge potential for future growth. We can already see more of new construction residential buildings being built. The environment that surrounds the residential buildings in is super green therefore it is suited for young families with kids. The spacious, well-appointed courtyards next to residential units are designed for walks, relaxation and barbecue (if you are into grilling). Close proximity to Mežaparks neighborhood is definitely one of the biggest advantages. One of the disadvantages that we can mention is lack of shopping areas in the neighborhood. Though, the Čiekurkans neighborhood is not designed for shopping but for families and businesses. Therefore, you can visit shopping malls in nearby neighborhoods, for example: TC Alfa. "
